Fiesole overlooks the city of Florence, surrounded by the beautiful Tuscan countryside. It is located in the immediate vicinity of Florence city and this allows visitors to reach it in a short time for a quick excursion. Today, VIPs and rich Florentines live here. In the past, Boccaccio, Proust, Stein or Frank Lloyd Wright lived there. A gorgeous villa to visit is Roseto, where the famous architect Michelucci lived, who designed the Santa Maria Novella Station in Florence. From this villa you have a breathtaking view of the dome of the Duomo and the hills of the Arno valley.

Fiesole is a very important archaeological city, because it was created by the Etruscans. In the great archeological site, which can be visited for a fee, you can see long stretches of the town’s defense walls dating to the 3rd century BC. C., and the Roman Theater, of the imperial age. In the summer, this theater becomes the stage for the Estate Fiesolana with performances of classical and operetta music.

In the city other important monuments are the Duomo di San Romolo, with its bell tower, the Bishop’s Palace and the ancient church of S Maria Primerana.

A classic walk to Fiesole is in the direction of the ancient acropolis, where you will find the basilica of S. Alessandro and the church with the convent and the Missionary Museum of St. Francesco. The beautiful surrounding nature makes Fiesole a destination for walks, to Monte Ceceri or Caldine.

The 5 most beautiful beaches closest to Florence

Tuscany Sea

Tuscany Sea

Summer: beach, sea and relax time! But how to reach them, if you are in Florence? Tuscan Feeling suggests you The 5 most beautiful beaches closest to Florence.

Viareggio by the Sea

Viareggio by the Sea

Viareggio, in the province of Lucca, is easily reachable from Florence in more than an hour by train and car. It is an historic seaside resort, whose architectures betray a genesis in the liberty era. The beaches are white sand and the seabed is low. Here, you can find well-equipped bathing establishments, but little free beach. The sea is not beautiful, but the promenade is truly impressive and the place of excellence of fashion boutiques. A remarkable detail: in Viareggio there are excellent seafood restaurants!

La Lecciona

La Lecciona

The beach of Lecciona is very close to Viareggio, and is protected by a pine forest that makes the days warmer, very acceptable. The dunes that dotted the golden sandy coastline create a wild wilderness impression and breathe in the air the smell of Mediterranean vegetation.

Marina di Cecina

Marina di Cecina

Marina di Cecina is very popular due to its crystal clear sea, its typical Tuscan landscapes and the excellent prices of the area. To get there, take the car, take the Aurelia road and park near the pine forest. 500 meters of freshly crossed in the pine forest and you get to the sea.

In Maremma, the Buca delle Fate (near Piombino) is paradise for those who love rocks and snorkeling. It’s a lovely cove, incredible sea. After passing the first piece of the promontory of Piombino, after parked along the road to Populonia, you walk down the hollow and smelly Mediterranean scrub. It is not a very easy but very enjoyable trip that you can associate with a visit to the ancient Etruscan city. Famous for crystalline water, the Buca delle Fate is a place of silence, from which to admire the Elba Island.

Graffiti on the walls in Florence!

A real Michelangelo's Opera?

A real Michelangelo’s Opera?

Graffiti on the walls in Florence!

Florence is full of ancient things, beautiful and very famous. But it is also rich in really curious things. We at Tuscan Feeling Real Estate know it well!
Much of our work, in fact, consists of walking through the historic center of Florence and visiting our apartments, alone or with our clients. It is normal for us to come across often in curious aspects, details and unknown things of our beloved town.

Palazzo Vecchio

Palazzo Vecchio

This time we decided to talk to you about something that is in one of the most famous places in Florence – Signoria Square – but no one does. Piazza Signoria is known throughout the world for its beauty and the presence of the extraordinary Palazzo Vecchio, home of the Municipality of Florence and the beautiful Loggia dei Lanzi, where Giambologna and Benevenuto Cellini’s sculptures are located.

Loggia dei Lanzi

Loggia dei Lanzi

Here – right in front of Palazzo Vecchio – there is a famous copy of Michelangelo’s David. The original is lovingly guarded at the Galleria dell’Accademia.

Michelangelo's David

Michelangelo’s David

At the bottom of the façade of Palazzo Vecchio, on the right of the entrance and behind the monumental blockade of Baccio Bandinelli, “Ercole abbatte Caco”, you can observe a curious graffiti representing a man’s face that Florentines are usually called the ‘Importuno’ (the importunate). Do not worry, it is not the usual witness to the passage of a modern turist, who despises the monuments. According to an old tradition, this profile was by the hand of a famous artist: Michelangelo Buonarroti.

L'importuno on Palazzo Vecchio's facade

L’importuno on Palazzo Vecchio’s facade

It is said that Michelangelo while crossing Piazza della Signoria was often stopped by an unpleasant acquaintance who annoyed him with long and useless chats. Once, Michelangelo, unable to get rid of this tedious interlocutor, leaned back to the wall of the palace, and, continuing to listen and observe it, snatched the hammer and the chisel, and behind his back traced in the fist the profile of the ‘importuno’, from which the graffito got the name. Another legend instead would like Michelangelo to run it with his hands behind his back for not to be seen, while in the square passed a condemned to death. The faced portrait would be that of the condemned.

L'importuno

L’importuno

‘L’importuno’ is just one of the many graffiti and inscriptions still visible in the city and realized by common people, albeit with some artistic ability. Around Florence, in many places, there are written even dating back to 1200 d. C. criticizing the government, insulting rivals in love or just signing of illustrious strangers, who somehow wanted to pass on to history. Today as yesterday, writing on the walls is a common thing!

If, however, someone still had this irresistible temptation to do so in Florence, he must know that the authorities are very strict, the art works and the buildings guarded by web cam and there are very expensive fines! Keep attention!

At around 11, during Mass, the Archbishop of Florence starts from the altar the Colombina, which is a rocket in the form of a dove (symbol of the Holy Spirit) that through a long thread reaches the Brindellone and lightis all the fireworks mounted on it. The fiery chariot is a show that will amaze the tourists, but also the Florentines themselves, waiting to see the back Colombina altar Maggiore. Christmas Shopping in Florence

Shopping in Florence

Shopping in Florence

Christmas becomes magical in Florence. A month before the December 25 the town is decorated with Christmas lights of a thousand colors that immerse the town in an unreal atmosphere, almost fantastic. As every year, the historical center of Florence is totally closed to traffic and it is accessible only by free shuttle buses that allow the Florentines and tourists arriving in the streets filled with interesting shops with gift ideas for every kind of taste. You can imagine the rivers of people that flock to Via Calzaiuoli and Via del Corso desperately looking for gift ideas that can be funny, original and possibly convenient. The Christmas atmosphere in Florence is beautiful, all the streets are lit, and you can enjoy the smell of roasted chestnuts, people walking hurriedly through the streets of downtown with packages and parcels. The city blend perfectly with specially crafted Christmas lights to illuminate and highlight details of great beauty of historical buildings, churches and monuments.
