Bomboloni in Florence

Delicious Bomboloni....

Delicious Bomboloni….

Delicious, creamy, tasty, sweet and fragrant, there’s nothing better than Bomboloni for a snack or breakfast! When you are in Florence it is difficult to resist the temptation to taste one, freshly baked, warm, while its tantalizing aroma spreads through the streets.

The cream is on the top!

The cream is on the top!

Yes, but what are Bomboloni?
Bomboloni are fried Italian donuts, fully filled with tasty pastry cream. They are warm, fluffy donuts with a sugary crust with a vanilla cream inside with a bit of lemon zest. The traditional filling is vanilla pastry cream, but you could find them with a fruit jelly, chocolate or even Nutella. Bomboloni are filled from the top never from the side and a small mound of pastry cream tops the centers.

Ciambelle

Ciambelle

You can find Bomboloni in many bars and pastry shops in the centre of Florence. Usually they are sold together with Ciambelle. They are a tyical Italian cake with the same recipe of Bomboloni, but without cream and with an hole inside.

So, where can you find Bomboloni in Florence?

Bar Pasticceria Cucciolo

Bar Pasticceria Cucciolo

1) Bar Pasticceria Cucciolo (Via del Corso 25r)

Cucciolo is an old (they opened in 1943) and small pasticceria and bar located just around the corner from The Duomo in a pedestrianised side-street. You can have here your breakfast or brunch and choose what you want from an amazing array of pastries, pizza and panini. The coffee is excellent, but Cucciolo is world wide famous for its Bomboloni. They are known in town for them and it can be safely said they are to die for. Bomboli and Ciambelle are cooked upstairs, so they are always warm and fragrant. They fall down on the counter inside the sugar from a characteristic metal cascade, which is one of the local characteristics. Nothing spectacular, but for the Florentines is synonymous of extraordinary Bombolini and their aroma spreads around in Via del Corso.

Vendere casa e trovare acquirenti stranieri

Appartamento Rufus

Appartamento Rufus

Vendere casa e trovare acquirenti stranieri?

Molto probabilmente no.

Wine & Oil in Florence…

Wine in Florence

Wine in Florence

Ok, I’m in Tuscany! Where can I go to buy directly from a manufacturer of oil and wine of excellent quality? The answer is: almost anywhere!
This is a question that many of you will be made, who spent a short holiday in the Tuscan countryside.
And if you’re in Florence? You know where to find a good wine and a good olive oil?
It’s easy, in the Tuscan countryside, find oil and wine directly from the producers, or on am ‘agriturismo’ or in the local markets. In Florence – as in all the towns – it is more complicated, but not impossible!

A typical fiasco...

A typical fiasco…

If you are in Piazza del Duomo you have few time and want to play it safe, there is only one place to go: Pegna (Via dello Studio 26/r). Here you can find a wide selection of fine Tuscan wines, quality olive oil and delicacies. It is an historic mini market in the heart of the city. Fine wines and quality spirits, as well as chocolate and biscuits, can be bought at Enoteca Alessi. (Via delle Oche 27/r), 5 minutes walk from the House of Dante’s Museum.

Another great wine retailer is Zanobini (Via Sant’Antonino, 47), where you live the typical atmosphere of the past. The store is active since 1944. Zanobini is one of the historical shops of Florence. It is located in San Lorenzo’s area (near the Basilica of San Lorenzo and the famous Medici Chapels). Procacci (Via Tornabuoni, 64r) is another good place too. Here you can take a break from shopping, enjoy a glass of wine and decide whether to buy black or white truffles or other delicacies to take away.

Tuscan Olive Oil

Tuscan Olive Oil

If you are looking for oil, you should visit the Bottega dell’Olio, which has a wide selection of extra virgin Tuscan olive oil and flavored with spices (Piazza del Limbo 2/r, behind Via de ‘Tornabuoni).
A good place to buy olive oil in the center of Florence is the Mercato Centrale. These days, the famous Fattoria di Maiano has decided to start a collaboration and make known its own oil to market goers. It is organic olive oil, produced in the hills near Fiesole, beloved by florentines.

Those looking for olive oil and organic wine should visit the small markets that are set up during the weekend in the streets of Florence. It’s numerous exhibitors – all strictly organic and verified – who joined in a sort of association called The Fierucola. The calendar can be downloaded from their website.

HANDCRAFTED SHOES, A FLORENTINE PASSION! WELCOME IN SAN NICCOLÒ!

Handcrafted shoes in Florence

Tuscan Feeling.

Are you angry, tired, depressed, unhappy? Is there anything that can make you feel better than buying a nice pair of shoes?
Shoes and Chocolate, probably, are the favorite antidepressants from each of us! Much better than an analyst’s therapy session.
If you look for the chocolate, Florence can offer you some great places, really delicious.
Florence is best known for shoes. Whether you’re looking for brand shoes, rather than hand-made shoes.
Probably, the capital of the Renaissance is one of the few places in Europe where you can experience the joy of buying handmade shoes by appreciated shoemakers. The historic center’s area of Florence, where they are concentrated artisans shoemakers is the Oltrarno, near the district of San Niccolò.

A well known historical workshop is located in the small and little frequented Via Barbadori, at 19r, alongside Ponte Vecchio. Here you will find the Maestro Calogero Mannina’s workshop, now deceased, which was used to create footwear, authentic unique models created for his faithful clients. The workshop is still alive and filled with forms for the creation of custom-made footwear, each bearing the name of the customer. Peering through the window, you will see the names of many rock stars and Hollywood actors, as well as leading politicians. Tuscan Feeling has many apartments in this street and, for our personal experience, we still remember the skill, patience and humility of Master Mannina’s way of working, which we considered one of the best artisans in Florence.
Near Palazzo Pitti, where Tuscan Feeling can offer you some other apartments for rent, it is the workshop of Mara Broccardi, an artist who creates exclusive models of shoes for ladies. Mrs. Broccardi’s workshop, is located in Sdrucciolo de Pitti, at number 17r,
Recently, the shoe brand founded by Stefano Bemer, a master shoemaker who died recently, was purchased by the prestigious Scuola del Cuoio. It ‘gave rise to a school for those who want to learn how to build and design shoes in a traditional way, it is via San Niccolò, in the heart of the district where you’re talking about. The shop is located in a deconsecrated church, fully restored, became the seat of laboratory, office and negozio.La historical workshop of master Bemer was instead in the district of San Frediano, nearby, in a place that has become a symbol of the city because shoemakers here he stayed for nine months in 2001, the actor Daniel Day Lewis, who decided to learn from Bemer art of creating custom shoes. This new school offers international courses and lessons by the best craftsmen and designers of Florence.
Not far from the district of San Niccolò, in Piazza Santo Spirito 62 / r, you will find the small workshop of Francesco, that produces high quality shoes, with a completely family-run business. Prices are still low and reasonable, and you can order handcrafted shoes. They also provide a fully working worldwide shipping service.
Another fine leather shoes shop in Florence is the Rive Gauche, in Via Guicciardini. It is another family run business that design and produce handcrafted shoes and leather goods for over 30 years. Shoes here have a great value for money, bearing in mind that these are handcrafted pieces.
If shoes are your thing, the district of San Niccolò is the right place to live, if you want to study or visit Florence. Here, the atmosphere of the ancient city of Florence, with its craft shops, is still preserved. Plus, you will be surrounded by art places famous all over the world, such as Palazzo Pitti, Ponte Vecchio, the Boboli Gardens or the Uffizi!!

The church was built around 1270 on a more ancient fort. Inside the church, built in 1270, there are two frescoes of Corso del Buono, a Cimabue’s student. The Priory of St. John (a short walk from the Museum), is the main city church.
